Training for Doctors on Medical and Humane Management of Cases of Violence against Women

IFES Programme

A training and education program for medical professionals on ‘Medical and Human Management of Cases of violence against Women' which was started in the year 2005. The project is funded by USAID, through IFES-India. 16 training programs were completed in the year 2005. The continuation of the same program are started from April, 2007.

• The project objectives are to create a platform for training and educating medical professionals, social workers and counselors in issues related to domestic violence against women and dowry.
• To develop appropriate training materials for continuing education of the medical professionals in dealing with domestic violence against women and dowry, to equip medical professionals, social workers and counselors to understand the background of domestic violence against women and dowry including the impact of their actions on the women and also minimum standards for professional practice in handling such cases, to sensitize the community as a whole about gender discrimination and the issue of violence against women including practice of dowry, to create a convergent model/mechanism for protecting women from violence and dowry and to bring the number of atrocities committed on women.
