Vivekananda Institute for Leadership Development, a Unit of Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement, launched its ambitious programme called “Youth for Development”, a Programme to Rebuild the Nation, on 16 th January 2006. This programme is initiated with a desire to build a good civil society, which is the need of the nation today. It is an effort by the Vivekananda Institute for Leadership Development to initially rebuild rural Karnataka and subsequently other parts of India. The programme aims to train the youth to make a difference in their communities. The training infuses competency into their commitment and connect them and their interests to governmental programmes, other NGOs involved in similar activities and try to bring their' and their communities' dreams into reality.

The Programme is partially residential, 08-week duration, with emphasis on Knowledge, Attitude, Skill and Practice of Development. It also elucidates the need and benefits of working with local Government, Panchayath Raj Institutions, Non Government Organizations, and Self Help Groups and also of co-opting the existing systems of both the bureaucracy and the political. It also highlights grant mobilizing strategies and opportunities within the community and other locally available sources. Emphasis is on value based development with non negotiable values like Non Violence, Truth, Renunciation and Service.
